Disability Income Protection Insurance

Protecting your ability to earn

If you had an accident or illness that affected your ability to earn, what would happen to your partner, children, home and lifestyle?
Did you know that 51% of men and 33% of women are likely to become disabled due to a critical illness before they turn 70? A health setback doesn’t have to affect your financial wellbeing. With income protection insurance, you’re compensated for time off work.

Temporary disablement due to sickness or accident is a risk that can touch many lives. Disability Income Protection Insurance safeguards your power to earn. It protects your family from the effects of illness and disability. Disability Income Protection provides you with a monthly payment if you're unable to work, due to illness or injury, for more than ten hours a week.

Benefits of Disability Income Protection

Receive up to 75% of your pre-disability income, paid monthly, to keep your household running while you recover. Choose your waiting period (the time you’ll need to wait until the benefit starts). A longer waiting period means a lower premium. Get advance payment to reduce stress and worry. (Only some insurers offer advance payment)

The waiting period can be waived if you suffer a recurrence of the same disability within six months of your benefit ceasing.
If you’re stuck in bed during the waiting period, you’ll get a special payment for each complete 24-hour period after the first 72 hours of bed confinement.

Choose your benefit payment period – one, two or five years, or to age 65 or 70. Receive a back-to-work lump sum benefit if you return to work between 12 and 24 months after claiming. For rehabilitation, a lump sum of up to six times your monthly benefit is available to pay for approved specialized equipment or home alterations. There’s also a retraining benefit available, if you need to change occupations. If you’re able to return to work part-time, you may be able to receive a partial monthly payment to help you make the transition back to full employment.

You can suspend your cover while on parental leave, sabbatical leave, study leave or leave without pay. You won’t have to pay your premium while receiving a benefit – this benefit is called Waiver of Premium. You’re covered anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day.
